Kea Island
The Island
One of the largest islands in Cyclades, Kea is the little secret of Athenians, thanks to its proximity to the capital, Athens. It is the ideal destination, whether you require a short getaway or a long holiday. The rocky cliffs, beautiful beaches and picturesque settlements, will satisfy all your needs, amounting to an unforgettable experience, filled with precious memories.
From the blossomed, idyllic alleys of Ioulis and the adventurous hiking trails, to the hidden beauty of Korrisia and the intense night life of Vourkari; the island allows even the most demanding visitor to connect with the natural environment, unwind from the fatigue of everyday life, and indulge in a mood of joy and entertainment.
Vourkari
Former fishing village Vourkari, is where the heart of Kea’s nightlife beats. A purely cosmopolitan settlement, spread over a windless bay, where the island’s highest standards marina is located, Vourkari buzzes with life, from morning till dawn. Trendy restaurants, modern bars and neat stores, built on the beachfront and overlooking the unique sunset, are responsible for Kea’s reputation as one of the most discreetly elegant travel destinations in Greece.
Beaches
Organized or secluded, accessible or isolated, with deep or with shallow waters, the beaches of Kea share one common feature: the clear and pristine waters of the Aegean Sea, which make the Cyclades one of the most popular summer destinations.
Just a stone's throw from Vourkari lies Gialiskari Beach. Always calm and with shallow waters, it is the easiest and closest option for visitors who wish to immerse themselves in the blue sea, while enjoying the amenities of an organized beach.
Otzias is the largest and northernmost beach of the island. Located in the middle of a large and sheltered bay, it caters to those who seek the natural shade of trees as well as those who prefer the comfort of a sunbed.
For adventure lovers and those who seek quiet swimming in crystal-clear waters amidst wild landscapes, Kaliskia beach, situated at the southeastern tip of the island, is the ultimate retreat. Access to the beach is only possible by a 4x4 vehicle or by boat.
The popular Koundouros is located on the southern part of Kea. It is fully organized, with shallow waters and nearby coves that you can visit. In one of these coves, Koundouraki, you can engage in various water activities.
The beaches of Xyla and Spathi, located on the northwest and northeast parts of the island respectively, feature both organized and unorganized sections, deep and cold water and are favored by younger visitors.
Local Tradition
Kea maintains its traditional character unchanged. Houses made of traditional stone and wood, respecting local architecture, scattered churches, small family farms in the hinterland and plenty of fishermen in coastal settlements, compose a typical island image that enchants visitors, connecting them with nature and tradition.
Historical Monuments
History enthusiasts can explore the scattered archaeological sites of the island. Liontari, Karthaia, Agia Irini, and Ancient Poieessa are monuments of the local cultural heritage, while the Archaeological Museum of Ioulida, houses findings from excavations in ancient settlements dating back to Prehistoric and Historical Times.

From picturesque churches to rugged beaches and from rocky slopes to the lush streams of the hinterland, Kea allows nature lovers to explore it, discovering its fascinating history.

Diving

One of the most interesting diving areas in the Mediterranean, Kea offers the opportunity to explore its underwater space. Aspiring divers can visit four historical and fully accessible shipwrecks: the HMSM Bretannic, the French ocean liner “Burdigala”, the steamer “Patris” and a German airplane, which was shot down during World War II. The fishing ban in the wider area of the wrecks guarantees an amazing experience for visitors, as marine life thrives undisturbed.
